Dominic

2019

2019's robot, Dominic, was prepared to compete in FIRST's challenge: DESTINATION DEEP SPACE Presented by the Boeing Company. Our robot was able to pick up cargo and hatch panels and place them on the lowest levels. It was able to climb to the first and second levels.

Scoring

Dominic’s scoring system worked through the pneumatic arms attached. They extended above and below the cargo before lifting it up into the air for disposal at the scoring area after the driver had delivered it. It also incorporated a 2-step climbing system using pneumatics to boost the robot upwards before grasping the bar. Dominic inserted hatch discs into a pneumatic cylinder that would expand and retract according to the operator.

Drivetrain

Our drivebase is fitted with six 6” Pneumatic Wheels and 6 Neos on either side of the signature West Coast drivetrain providing extreme versatility on the field. With a custom 2-speed shifting gearbox, we can reach 13 ft/sec. This allows for smooth traversal of the rendezvous point and enough traction for accurate autonomous routines and driver control.

Operating

Our robot is driven with two Logitech controllers. The driver’s controller was used for moving and turning the robot as well as shooting, where the operator’s controlled the intake, hopper, and climber subsystems. We used a Limelight to help position ourselves to score accurately.

Electronics

Our electronics incorporated 8 motors, all working to keep the robot working properly during competition. Using a camera, we were able to interpret the area surrounding the robot and position the robot so that disposal of cargo into the scoring area went flawlessly.
